Specialty care in your office

Patients in rural areas once traveled long distances to see a specialists for medical care. Today, physicians and their patients can benefit from telemedicine, a service of ECU Physicians and the Brody School of Medicine that brings advanced medical care to your institution or office.  Because of our commitment to medical technology and communications, we have pioneered new ways to connect doctors and patients, even hundreds of miles apart, to provide the specialty care they need.

Our Telemedicine Center allows specialists from the Brody School of Medicine faculty to examine patients throughout the state, just as they would during an in-person office visit.

During a telemedicine visit, the consulting physician or other provider may:

  • listen to chest and heart sounds
  • conduct stress tests and echocardiograms
  • examine skin conditions and other physical symptoms
  • evaluate and manage rehabilitation, including traumatic brain injury
  • conduct psychiatric evaluations for adults and children
  • conduct subspecialty consultations

Our telemedicine services use video conferencing with encryption and specially engineered medical instruments to allow specialists to examine and communicate with patients across large distances. Most of our services originate at the Telemedicine Center, where physicians and other consulting providers converse with patients remotely as they would during an in-person appointment.

We offer medical specialties through telemedicine to rural hospitals, medical centers, physician's offices, schools, mental health centers and other institutions throughout eastern North Carolina and beyond.

Our Telemedicine Center provides professional consultation, for a fee, to design, customize and install your equipment. Once your equipment is in place, you will be able to offer your patients specialty care by appointment.

We will gladly provide more information about the specialties listed below and others that may be available.
